We’re off and, hopefully, running. Time-off is over. At the risk of my memo getting lost in your inbox or routed to SPAM/Junk/Bulk, let’s talk about what you are going to do next.
Two weeks into the new year and, in my experience, 2026 budgets are not quite finalized. People are waiting for results of the last month or 4th quarter before finalizing things. Likely everyone is watching the. news to figure out if the year is going to be good, challenging, bad, or whatever. I think we can count on it being topsy-turvy with lots of noise. Focus. Focus. Focus. Pay attention to the 20% of decisions that will drive 80% of revenue and profits.
You may be working on preparing business income taxes due in March, personal income taxes due in April, and non-profit tax forms due in May. Assuming many business leaders are on the boards of a non-profit, like me, you are involved in all three of these tax items. If you have learned anything from last year, keep better records this year. Clean up your chart of accounts. Make it clear to everyone what goes in what category so that you can make a more informed decision 3/6/9/12 months from now. If you need to brush up on items yourself, help your leadership team better understand finance, or want your employees to be more informed and engaged in helping the business grow profitably, consider checking out Profit Mastery at: https://www.profitmastery.net/a/2147909737/Hr9qgmm3
We just finished the NCAA football season and much of the NFL season. We’ve seen coaches get canned and coaches sign on to new contracts. The coaches don’t play on the field. They play in the minds and hearts of all the special coaches and, most importantly, the players. What are you doing to coach and inspire your people? If you want to better understand your people, take advantage of a free assessment of what drives you and everyone in your organization. Find out their WHY, discuss it, adapt to it as needed to get through to the highly ambitious salesperson and the risk averse lawyer and the detail oriented bookkeeper. Till the end of the day, February 13, use this QR code for a free WHY Discovery. Reach out if it is past that date.
