Band-Aid® is a perfect example of a brand. You know exactly what it is and what it does. It’s difficult to think of another name for it because we identify the item with the brand. Of course, there are other brands of adhesive bandages, such as Curity™, Covidien™, Coverlet®, Flex-Band, Nexcare™, ProAdvantage, CURAD®, McKESSON Medi-Pak™, dynarex, and Ever Ready. I must confess, I’ve only heard of 3 or 4 of the alternatives to the LEADER OF THE BRAND!
Brand identify includes your logo mark, colors, fonts, rules of use and such. “The real brand is what people feel, think, and believe about you. It’s the total understanding of who you are, what you are, and what you do.” according to Jerry Fletcher, the Brand Poobah of Z-axis Marketing.
Jerry and I sat together for a second time this last week to discuss much about branding for a solopreneur, a start up intended to grow big with investors, and multi-national corporations. We touched on IBM, CSX, Fisher Nuts, Ford, Chevrolet, Freightliner, Apple and more.
